Microgeneration FAQs
Whether you’re new to microgeneration or switching to Share Energy, we know there’s a lot to take in. We've listed some of the most common questions we receive below.
Applications for 2024/2025 period have closed.
You can register now for the 2025/2026 period by contacting our team at microgeneration@share-energy.com and requesting a Welcome Pack.
The microgeneration cycle runs from 1st October to 30th September.
Payments are made the following October, just as soon as we receive funds from the grid.
For example, export from October 2025 to September 2026 will be paid in October 2027.
We receive our payment from the grid after the following October, after microgeneration year ends. Customer payments follow once we receive those funds.
For example, Share Energy will receive payment from the grid for the 2025/2026 microgeneration period in October 2027.
Yes. You can remain with your existing supplier for import while selling your excess export to Share Energy. Just make sure your contact and payment details are up to date.
No. NIE will inform your existing supplier once your switch to Share Energy is processed.
Our 2024/2025 microgeneration rate was 13.9p per unit. The 2025/2026 rate will be announced in July 2026. As part of our commitment to clean generation - we always aim to offer ultra-competitive rates.
Yes. Our team has vast experience in the sector and can manage the purchase and sale of ROCs on your behalf to secure the best possible return.
Please notify us as soon as possible. We’ll take a closing meter reading before you leave, and you’ll be paid for export up to that point. The new occupant will receive payments for export generated after your closing reading.
If your panels are leased it's important to check your agreement. In many cases, the leasing company retains the right to sell any excess electricity.
Applications received after 28 July 2025 will be added to the waiting list for the following microgeneration period.
