Share EV Tariff: Night Rate, Meter and Eligibility

Share Energy EV Tariff: Night Rate, Meter and Eligibility

What Is the Share EV Tariff and Who Can Use It?

Quick answer

Share EV is Share Energy's day-and-night electricity tariff. It charges a lower unit rate during the night window and a higher rate during the day. The night rate applies from 1am to 8am during winter time (GMT) and 2am to 9am during summer time (BST). You do not need to own an electric vehicle to use it. It is available to Share Energy customers whose property has, or can have, a day-and-night meter. Current rates are published Share Energy's residential tariffs page.

What is the Share EV tariff?

Share EV is a multi-rate electricity tariff designed around two charging periods: day and night. The lower night rate can suit households that can move a meaningful proportion of their electricity use into the off-peak window, including overnight EV charging.

Key takeaway: Share EV is a day-and-night tariff; the night unit rate is lower than the day rate.

Do you need an electric vehicle to get Share EV?

No. Despite the name, owning an EV is not an eligibility requirement. The tariff can also suit shift workers and households that regularly use appliances or other electricity overnight.

Whether it is suitable depends on your own consumption pattern, so compare the current day and night rates and hours with when you actually use electricity.

What meter do you need for Share EV?

You need a day-and-night meter that records electricity use separately in each pricing window. If you currently have a single-rate meter, Share Energy can arrange a meter change with NIE Networks.

Northern Ireland households are entitled to one free meter change per year, subject to the applicable network arrangements.

How do you switch to the Share EV tariff?

●        Already a Share Energy customer: contact Share Energy to request Share EV tariff and confirm whether your meter is suitable.

●        Already on an EV or day-and-night tariff elsewhere: switch supplier and retain the compatible day-and-night meter.

●        Currently on a single-rate meter: switch to Share Energy first, then Share Energy can arrange the required meter change with NIE Networks.

Share Energy domestic tariffs do not have a long-term contract or exit fee.

What are the Share EV day and night rates?

The current Share EV day rate, night rate, standing charge and the exact hours for each pricing window are published on Share Energy's residential tariffs page. Using that live page avoids relying on an older price after a tariff change.

Key takeaway: Check the live residential tariffs page for the current Share EV prices and hours.

How do you know whether Share EV could suit your household?

Start with two questions: how much electricity do you use overnight and can you shift more usage into the night window? EV chargers and many household appliances can be scheduled, so some customers can deliberately move consumption into the lower-rate period.

The tariff will not suit every usage pattern. Compare your own consumption with the published day and night rates before deciding.

What other Share Energy benefits apply to the Share EV tariff?
